National Security & Defense

Having grown up outside the gates of historic Fort Rucker, Senator Britt has seen firsthand that the sacrifices made by our servicemembers extend to their entire families. The American Dream would not be possible without the courageous men and women of our Armed Forces, and we owe them all an eternal debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. Our servicemembers keep our homeland strong and our communities safe.

With adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran becoming increasingly more aggressive, there is no more important priority than our national defense. Senator Britt believes that our warfighters must remain the best trained, equipped, and resourced in the world. The United States must maintain a robust military through strategic investments and modernization efforts. Senator Britt will always make the security of our country and the wellbeing of our servicemembers a top priority.

Senator Britt believes that the role that Alabama plays in our national defense is incalculable. Ensuring our state continues to play a central role in bolstering our warfighter and defense capabilities is a top priority, and she is proud to deliver continued investment in our state. She has worked tirelessly to support Alabama’s military and defense industry, including through her work to bring U.S. Space Command Headquarters home to its rightful location at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. In September of 2025, she joined President Trump, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, and members of Alabama’s congressional delegation in the Oval Office following the restoration of the U.S. Air Force’s merit-based decision to permanently base Space Command HQ in Huntsville.

Senator Britt has also championed key investments across Alabama, including Hadrian’s $2.4 billion advanced manufacturing facility to support America’s maritime industrial base. This incredible investment will result in up to 1,000 skilled jobs, strengthen our nation’s maritime and defense industrial needs, and increase our shipbuilding capacity. Senator Britt is proud to be a part of this progress—under the Trump Administration, American manufacturing is back and stronger than ever.

On the Appropriations Committee, Senator Britt is dedicated to seeing taxpayer dollars invested back into Alabama, including to strengthen Alabama’s military installations. Most recently, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) Appropriations Act included $169.4 million for Alabama’s military installations, including nearly $32.4 million directly secured by Senator Britt. In total, the FY26 MilCon-VA Appropriations Act provides $19.7 billion for the Department of Defense military construction program to fund more than 280 projects at military bases around the world, and $133.2 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), including funding for VA medical care.

Since taking office, Senator Britt has also joined her colleagues in passing the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to bolster our nation’s defense. The FY26 NDAA returns the Department of War to its warfighting mission, assists President Trump in securing our border and defending our homeland, builds on military recruitment efforts that continue to reach record highs, strengthens deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, and pushes back against Russian aggression and terrorist activity. This legislation also included several measures secured by Senator Britt that will directly benefit Alabama. She is deeply proud to continue ensuring Alabama’s world-class aerospace and defense workforce, capabilities, and synergies stand ready to strengthen our national security long into the future.

Senator Britt has continued to advance America’s strategic interests and support Israel. Since Hamas’ despicable terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, she has been an outspoken and strong supporter of the Jewish community and Israel, traveling with a bipartisan group of her Senate colleagues to meet with leaders across the region and emphasize the United States’ unequivocal support for Israel. She is also a strong supporter of several efforts to impose comprehensive sanctions on Iran to terminate its terror network and prevent its ability to fund terrorist proxy groups, including the Stop Funding Global Terrorists Act of 2025, the Enhanced Iranian Sanctions Act, and the Dismantle Iran’s Proxy Act.
