ICYMI: U.S. Senator Katie Britt Joins ABC News Live’s Prime with Linsey Davis

July 31, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) joined Prime with Linsey Davis on ABC News Live. She discussed transparency regarding the Epstein files and the benefits of the One Big Beautiful Bill. As a member of the Senate Banking Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, Senator Britt also discussed the bipartisan affordable housing package that recently passed unanimously out of committee.

Excerpts from Senator Britt’s interview are below. The full interview can be viewed here.

On releasing the Epstein files:

“[T]he Senate Appropriations Committee (unanimously adopted) an amendment … to say that we want [the Epstein files] released to Congress. So I believe that people will get answers, the answers that they want, and we’re looking forward to having that for the American people.

“[L]ast time I checked, [Democrats] were in charge for the last four years, and I can’t seem to find any of them that were speaking up or compelling their own DOJ or [the] president of their own party to do this very same thing. So, they don’t have a lot of standing in my mind with regards to this.

“However, I do know many Republicans who have been talking about this and looking for transparency for the American people. I’m going to work with those people to continue to try to provide that and believe the administration is as well.”

On the benefits of the One Big Beautiful Bill:

“I think what you see right now is you have a lot of people that are trying to inject politics in this, but the facts are the facts. First off, we’re going to have a secure border. We’re going to have a strong national defense. We’re going to unleash American energy, and we’re going to make sure that taxpayers get to keep more of their hard-earned dollars.

“So whether it’s no tax on tips, something that I saw both sides of the aisle come together on last year during the presidential election, but President Trump actually put into action. Whether it’s those people that are working nighttime shifts or overtime because they want to earn a little bit extra for their family, and they’re going to get to keep more of their hard earned money. Whether it’s seniors that have a $6,000 deduction or 12,000 if they’re married, they’re living on a fixed income. We have made sure that they’re going to have more money in their pockets.

“Or, whether it’s child care. Linsey, we’ve talked about this before, but childcare, the affordability and accessibility has been talked about for a long time by the Democrats, but yet no action. Republicans at their first bite at the apple with regards to reconciliation, actually tackled [the affordability and accessibility of child care].”

On the recent bipartisan affordable housing package:

“It is rare, particularly in this political environment, that you see something pass 24 to 0. But what this does is transformational.

“Look, we know when we’re talking about an American Dream that it’s different for each and every person. But (for) so many people, a piece of that is … having homeownership …. What we did was roll back unnecessary, burdensome red tape, whether it’s for manufactured homes or in the supply chain. We want to make sure we also address the homelessness issue. Things that we came together on in this bill are critically important.”
