October 16, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) joined The Lead with Jake Tapper on CNN and The Bottom Line on Fox Business. In both interviews, she discussed the consequences of the ongoing government shutdown and why Democrats are holding the American people hostage over their re-election priorities. Additionally, Senator Britt addressed the Trump Administration’s efforts to crack down on crime to ensure safety and security in our communities, as well as Republican policies to support American agricultural success.

Excerpts from both of Senator Britt’s interviews are below. You can view the full interview from CNN here and the full interview from Fox Business here.

On Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer’s politically motivated decision to shut down the government:

“It is Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats who are utilizing the federal workforce as pawns … Unfortunately, Chuck Schumer and his colleagues have chosen to play politics, and they’ve done that, obviously, with the lives of federal workers … We want to make sure people are receiving their paychecks … we want to make sure that people are receiving these services. And it is some Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer that have chosen to play politics.

“We came forth again today and said, let’s fund the government with a clean CR … At the same time, we see Chuck Schumer just prepping for his No Kings rally on Saturday. So, our focus here couldn’t be greater on the American people. Theirs is about trying to preserve Chuck Schumer in his next election.

…

“I talked to people today [who] are in need of VA services … these are the people paying the price. We’ve heard them [Democrats] talk about health care, but yet they are unfazed by the fact that the most vulnerable women, infant and children may not have the resources they need. Look, at the end of the day, this is a political stunt. It’s one that’s gone on 15 days too long. And the American people are paying the price for Chuck Schumer’s insecurities.”

On the Trump Administration’s efforts to crack down on crime:

“This is what the America First agenda means. That means people want to live in safe and strong communities. President Trump didn’t just talk about it on the campaign trail, he is putting that into action now. So, whether you look at the number of people arrested, or the number of the most wanted that we actually have captured, or the fentanyl that’s been taken off our streets, there is no doubt that people can sleep better at night knowing that this country is safer and stronger as a result of President Trump’s leadership … we’re going to hold people accountable, and we’re going to make our safe streets safer and stronger.”

On President Trump supporting American agricultural success:

“Look, I think President Trump has our agriculture community’s back. He understands the grit that our family farmers put in every single day … And he’s going to make sure that they can continue to do what they’re doing best.

…

“For years, we’ve seen Joe Biden turn a blind eye to our agriculture community… Whether it was fertilizer, whether it was workforce issues … whether it was mechanics … they were actually paying the price … President Trump in the [Working Family Tax Cuts bill] said, we see you and we are going to make sure that we change this … President Trump is looking to open up new markets for them.

…

“We have a lot of things that we have moving to make sure that our agriculture community has what it needs to feed and clothe America, because we know that food security is national security. So, I would say to them, President Trump is on it. He knows how important and critical you are, not just to the United States, but to the globe.”
