U.S. SENATOR KATIE BRITT CASTS FIRST VOTE

January 30, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 23, 2023 – United States Senator Katie Boyd Britt (R-Ala.) today cast her first ever vote in the Senate.

Senator Britt cast a “nay” vote on the confirmation of Brendan Owens to serve as Assistant Secretary for Energy, Installations and Environment in the Department of Defense. Owens was originally nominated by President Joe Biden in March 2022 but failed to muster the support to get a floor vote during the 117th Congress. President Biden re-nominated Owens in January 2023 at the start of the 118th Congress.

“The Biden Administration has consistently prioritized their reckless leftwing political agenda to the detriment of our military readiness,” said U.S. Senator Katie Britt. “This nominee would simply be the tip of the spear in continuing President Biden’s radical ‘Green New Deal’ priorities at the Department of Defense, which should be focused on ensuring our incredible men and women in uniform are the best equipped, resourced, and trained in the world. We achieve peace through strength, not wokeness. The last thing we need is a DOD appointee from the ESG movement.”
