U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Tom Cotton Introduce Bill to Stop Biden Blockade of Munitions Shipments to Israel

May 17, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 17, 2024 — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) this week joined Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and 14 of their Senate Republican colleagues in introducing the Israel Security Assistance Support Act, which would force the Biden Administration to send critical munitions to Israel.

Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.Dak.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Pete Ricketts (R-Nebr.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) also cosponsored the legislation.

Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA-41) recently introduced companion legislation in the House.

The Israel Security Assistant Support Act would:

  • Force the Biden administration to complete the delivery of weapons to Israel.
  • Cancel the salaries of any Biden administration official at the Department of Defense or Department of State who take any action to withhold the delivery of weapons to Israel.

This comes after Senator Britt last week participated in a press conference hosted by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on President Biden’s decision to withhold certain shipments of American weapons to Israel.

In the press conference, Senators announced their introduction of a resolution, led by Senator Graham, condemning any action by the Biden Administration to withhold or restrict ammunition or weapons for Israel.

“After World War II, we as Americans said, ‘Never Again.’ Today, President Biden’s dithering doctrine of appeasement and legacy of weakness threaten to break that promise. This Administration is turning its back on Israel — and at the worst possible time. As Israel works to secure the release of the hostages — including American citizens — still held by Hamas in Gaza, President Biden has undermined Israel and empowered Hamas. We must stand unequivocally with Israel as she fights to end Hamas’ reign of terror and ensure there is never another October 7,” said Senator Britt.

Additionally, Senators Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), John Thune (R-S.Dak.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Bill Cassidy (La.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.Dak.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), John Hoeven (R-N.Dak.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), John Kennedy (R-La.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Jerry Moran (R-Kans.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Pete Ricketts (R-Nebr.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Mike Rounds (R-S.Dak.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), J.D.
