May 28, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, joined Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) and several of their Senate Republican colleagues in introducing a resolution to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the U.S. Border Patrol today.

“It’s an honor to recognize the 101st anniversary of this important agency today, especially with President Trump back in the White House. President Trump has empowered the brave men and women of our Border Patrol to enforce our immigration laws and, as a result, we now have one of the most secure borders in history. As Chairman of Homeland Appropriations, I remain deeply committed to working alongside our law enforcement officers and prioritizing strong border and interior immigration enforcement policies,” said Senator Britt.

The resolution honors the brave men and women of the Border Patrol for their unwavering service, dedication, and countless sacrifices to our nation. Excerpts from the resolution are below, and the full text can be viewed here.

“Whereas the U.S. Border Patrol’s highly trained and motivated personnel have been called upon to perform their duties 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of scorching southern desert heat or freezing northern winters, and have worked tirelessly as vigilant protectors of our Nation’s borders . . .

“Whereas every day the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol put their lives on the line protecting the United States and 163 Border Patrol agents, while serving with honor and integrity, have lost their lives in the line of duty . . .

“Whereas the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol have demonstrated a continued commitment to mission, not only through the prevention, detection, and apprehension of those who seek to enter or reenter the United States illegally, but also through the detection and identification of victims of human traffickers and the transnational criminal organizations who profit from the forced movement and labor of such victims, and through the interdiction and seizure of illegal and deadly narcotics, such as fentanyl, before such drugs are further transported into the interior of the United States . . .”

Since taking office, Senator Britt has supported efforts to ensure law enforcement officers have the tools and resources to make America safe again. Recently, she introduced the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, which would make it a crime to flee from agents or officers in the performance of their duties. “Our border patrol agents and law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect our nation, and we owe it to them to ensure they have the tools and resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” Senator Britt stated on introduction.

This year, Senator Britt’s S.5, the Laken Riley Act, became President Trump’s first bill signed into law. This legislation included an amendment mirroring Senator Joni Ernst’s (R-Iowa) Sarah’s Law, and a provision by Senator Cornyn mirroring the POLICE Actwhich expanded the list of criminal offenses covered by the bill to include assault of a law enforcement officer.
